Snow Melting
Snow melters are a big tool in our toolbox. Not everyone needs them, but when you need them, there’s nothing else that can compare to them. To our knowledge, we are the only contractor in the Chicagoland market that owns and operates these snow melters outside of airports.
When parking lots and docks run out of room for the snow that is piled in them, there are several means of removing that snow. They are:
Hauling or relocating the snow to another location on site that does have room. (May or may not be possible)
Hauling the snow off site to a different location altogether. (That’s very expensive)
Blowing the snow onto a grassy area on site that can hold it (we have those big snow blowers too…see the next section!). Many sites do not have such an area on site to blow to.
Melting the snow on site with these snow melters. This is almost always an option.
Each of these methods has their pros and cons. But one of the melters’ main pros is that they’re almost always a viable option in any situation. Snow melters are like giant hot tubs for snow. Warm up and agitate the water in the melting tank, dump the snow into the tank, and as the snow melts in the “hot tub” it comes out the discharge tubes and down the drain it goes. They’re a simple concept performed at very high capacity and a very economical and environmentally friendly option in the right scenarios.
PD-15’s
These smaller melters are designed for use in small spaces like parking garages and can be pulled with a pickup truck.
PD-60’s and PD-80’s
These medium-sized melters work great for corporate parking lots where snow storage is an issue
PD-135’s
These large melters are great for dock areas and large corporate parking lots that don’t have enough room to store snow.
